what can we do with this data?

pardon the lack of caps, i am posting from my playbook...

so i was wondering what purpose this data serves, beyond server status and "armory" data... what can one do with it?

one day will it be possible to feed back data to the live games from secondary "apps", as though the apps are actually part of the live games themselves? the simplest example i can give would be to have a mobile app for the eq2 crafting system that actually is the same thing as crafting in the normal pc client with your toon. that level of integration would be great for all sony devices (psp, playstations, xperia) as well as ios and blackberry devices, because it would give people a level of lifestyle-fluid experience that just is not available in other products.

soe could encourage the use of mmo data in certified mini games (approved like playbook/ios/android apps) that send data back to the parent game as an extention of the in game experience, while also allowing fans and developers to make games that use a person's character information, but do not send information back to he game. certified games could also hook into the soe chat system to deliver the mmo experience to players from a variety of different devices. i am thinking this could allow players to help eachother out like so,

bob is on the train and has a few hours to kill, so he hops into guild chat, where he finds that john could use a hand crafting gear for a group of new recruits. john mails bob a bunch of materials and bob downloads the eq2 crafting app for his playstation vita, which allows him to pickup his mail, access his resources, and buy crafting supplies. bob crafts the gear while riding the train and mails it to john who gives it to the recruits. time well spent in the game, without being in the game!

uncertified games would be able to use the game data and assets for fun, but ultimately would not have an impact on the game world... like so,

bob is stuck in a line up for 30 minutes, so he decides to play some dance dance eq2lution - a game that uses his avatar's appearance in multi touch dance-a-thon against other players top scores. the scores would be saved on the app developer's server, but it would it use real eq2 avatars to populate the game, so friends could scare some laughs about their standings, etc.

i dunno... i think there is this huge unrealized potential here just waiting to blow the lid off the gaming industry.

I guess it's good to think big...

But my take on this is it's really "looking at data" like item characteristics, players stats and items carried, spells, etc. but not interacting with that data really.

As for what I did with it, http://eq2mission.flame.org/leaderboards  :)

Yeah, think of this as read-only.  Yes, you could use your EQ2 avatar's appearence in a dance dance game on a tablet (why?!), but you would not be able to update anything within the EQ2 game itself.

I wouldn't mind interfaces for certain activities (calander updates, motd updates, guild point updates, broker updates, etc), but these would all require an authentication system of where there isn't one yet.  There are discussions to add an authentication mechanism though.

I went through several drafts on my initial reply myself.  I thougt it best to keep it simple.  :)

There are many discussions going on around the subject, but there is nothing to talk about just yet.
